整套茶具 - Mizujashi (water pitcher)] Blue and white porcelain, tub side (Okegawa) - 瓷器 - 茶道具 染付桶側(桶川)水指

[Tea utensils/tea ceremony tools Mizusashi (water pitcher)] Blue and white porcelain, tub side (Okegawa) Size: Mizusashi/Water jar: Dia9-13.5*H14.7cm 水指Mizusashi is one of the tea ceremony utensils. It is a vessel used to add water to the tea kettle during the tea ceremony and to store water for washing the tea bowls and tea whisks. 桶側 The tub side (Okegawa) is one of the old blue and white porcelain water pitchers, with a cylindrical body that is squeezed into a shallow ring flower pattern, with vertical lines in indigo around the knot and a thunder pattern around the opening. It is said to have been named after the vertical lines on the body that resemble the side of a tub. It is also called shisen, which is paper used for writing Chinese poetry, and is said to be due to its similar appearance with the lines drawn on it. *染付Kuresu Somezuke: Ceramics painted with a glaze containing cobalt, and ceramics using this technique. It is called “blue flower” in China because it changes from blue to dark blue when fired. Initially imitated by the Chinese, Nabeshima ware gradually evolved into a more Japanese style and refined painting for the Japanese upper class. Nabeshima ware was rarely seen by the general public during the Edo period and was produced in extremely small quantities, only occasionally appearing on the market as disposed articles. For this reason, the market value of Nabeshima ware is extremely high. 京焼 清水焼 *Kyo-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki is a type of ceramic that is made around Kyoto City. Originally, Kyo-yaki was the general term for pottery made in Kyoto, and Kiyomizu-yaki was the name for the pottery made on the approach to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. A characteristic of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki, unlike those from other production areas, is that many different types of pottery are baked using a variety of techniques. Each kiln has different characteristics, and a wide variety of pottery is fired, including colored pottery, dyed pottery, tenmoku pottery, celadon pottery, and powdered pottery. In addition to ``tea ceremony'' and ``flower arranging,'' Kyoto also has a variety of traditional arts and culture, such as ``kodo,'' which involves burning fragrant wood and appreciating the scent that rises from it, as well as an abundance of Kyoto cuisine and Japanese sweets that can only be found in Kyoto. Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki have developed together with these traditional Japanese cultures. Even today, when mass-produced products have become mainstream, Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki have maintained the tradition of hand-made ceramics, and have established an unshakable position as Japan's representative ceramics.
