A beautifully preserved natural sea sponge (Spongia officinalis) This impressive specimen shows the characteristic soft, porous structure and warm beige colour typical of the so-called "Honeycomb" or "Wool sponge", traditionally harvested in the Mediterranean Sea. These sponges were once collected by free divers and used since ancient Greek and Roman times for bathing, painting, and decoration. Today they are prized as natural interior pieces and marine curiosities.
