Beskrivelse fra sælger
Late 明治Meiji–Early 大正Taishō Arai-shu Lacquer Soup Bowls with 蒔絵Gold Maki-e Birds – 檜Hinoki Wood
This is an elegant set of antique Japanese lacquer soup bowls (owan) finished in vibrant Arai-shu (washed vermilion) lacquer, crafted on high-quality hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood bases. The set dates to the late Meiji to early Taishō period (circa 1890s–1920s).
The exterior is coated in refined bright orange-red lacquer, known as Arai-shu, appreciated for its warmth and dignified brilliance. Each lid is decorated with thickly applied gold maki-e depicting birds among blossoming branches. The gold decoration shows noticeable depth and layering, indicating carefully executed traditional maki-e technique rather than printed decoration.
The interior is finished in deep black lacquer, creating a striking contrast with the vivid vermilion exterior. These bowls embody the balance of practicality and refined aesthetic typical of high-quality Japanese lacquerware from the late 19th to early 20th century. Their timeless elegance allows them to harmonize beautifully with both traditional and contemporary table settings.
