Inspired by Japan's first domestically produced railway clock, which underpinned the nation's unparalleled railway precision

In 1929, Seikosha's Model 19 hand-wound pocket watch was designated Japan's first railway clock. It is no exaggeration to say this railway clock laid the foundation for Japan's world-renowned railway precision. Inspired by that railway clock, this piece was jointly developed by Seiko—Japan's globally acclaimed watchmaker celebrating its 140th anniversary this year—and light up company as a special 50th-anniversary project.
Preserving the railway clock's legibility, a solar-powered wristwatch eliminating the need for periodic battery replacement was completed.
To maintain the railway clock's legibility while fitting within a 38mm case, not only the dial design but also the minute hand were custom-made. A beautiful solar panel, designed not to detract from the railway clock aesthetic, was adopted, achieving functionality that eliminates the need for regular battery replacement.
