The dish is finely decorated with numerous butterflies in flight, rendered in iron-red, yellow, green, blue and black outlines. The composition is lively and balanced, characteristic of Qing dynasty export porcelain produced for the Western market during the 19th century. The underside is plain with a neatly finished foot ring and a white glazed base. No mark, as typically seen on export wares of this type.
