Exceptional Old Jade Celt – North Coast of Papua This outstanding old celt is carved from light green jade stone of fine quality and displays an exceptional length of 27.5 cm, a size rarely encountered. The surface shows a beautiful, softly polished patina, the result of age, use, and careful handling over generations. Such celts were not merely tools but functioned as objects of prestige and value, often circulating as tribal money and ceremonial exchange items along the north coast of Papua. Their material, size, and craftsmanship reflect both status and spiritual significance within local exchange systems. The harmonious proportions, subtle translucency of the jade, and evident age make this piece a true highlight for any serious collection of Oceanic or tribal currency objects.
