Historical Context:
Antiochos VII, known as “Sidetes,” was the last great Seleucid ruler. He sought to restore the empire’s strength through campaigns against the Parthians, briefly regaining Mesopotamia before his defeat and death in 129 BC. His coinage, often featuring Athena and Nike, symbolized both martial power and divine sanction. Despite his efforts, the Seleucid kingdom rapidly declined after his reign.
