Salvador Dali (1904-1989) - Tristan and Iseult - The Doomed Lovers, 1970
Salvador Dalí Tristan and Iseult - The Doomed Lovers, 1970 Artist: Salvador Dalí Year: 1970 FRAMED Dimensions: 71 x 58 51 x 39 (unframed) Medium: Color etching SIGNED: In pencil EDITION: XLI OF LXXV The medieval theme of the legend of Tristan and Isolde has inspired a good number of artists. Salvador Dalí takes it up again faithful to his surrealist touch by mixing love, death and madness. The legend of Tristan and Isolde is the tragic tale of two lovers destined to share a forbidden but eternal love. Mythological scholars believe the legend originated in Brittany, western France. Over time it became associated with Arthurian legends and became part of the mythology of medieval Europe, told and retelled in various versions and in many languages.
