Such cabinets were installed in homes to enshrine protective talismans and to serve as a focal point for daily prayer and offerings, reflecting the close connection between Shinto practice and everyday life in Japan. The structure is made entirely of wood and features a simple, architectural form characteristic of Meiji-period domestic religious furnishings. The doors open to reveal the inner compartment, and the overall construction shows the honest workmanship and materials of the period. There are signs of age consistent with long-term use, including surface wear, small scratches, discolouration, patina, and small holes. A repair is visible at the upper section of the right door.
