Item Description: This is a vibrant hand-blown glass vase by Kyōhei Fujita, one of Japan’s most celebrated glass artists and a recipient of the prestigious Order of Culture. The vase showcases a striking “green sansai” (tri-color) palette, enhanced with gold leaf accents that shimmer under light. Fujita's hallmark technique—fluid, organic patterns within the glass—is evident in the dynamic fusion of yellow, white, and gold droplets dispersed across the green base. The soft matte finish and elegant gourd-like form demonstrate the artist’s mastery of Venetian-inspired forms blended with traditional Japanese aesthetics. The vase comes in its original signed wooden tomobako (box), indicating authenticity and care in presentation. A true collector's piece, representing the refined artistry of modern Japanese glasswork. Size Height: 19.5 cm Width: 17 cm Depth: 17 cm Weight: 2566 g Artist Profile: Kyōhei Fujita (藤田喬平, 1921–2004) Born in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward in 1921, Kyōhei Fujita graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1944, majoring in metalwork. In 1947, he joined Iwata Glass and later held his first solo exhibition at Ueno Matsuzakaya in 1957. He went on to exhibit at Takashimaya and numerous prestigious venues, both in Japan and internationally. A pioneer of Japan’s studio glass movement, Fujita developed distinctive techniques such as “flowing glass” (ryūdō garasu) and intricate gold-leaf embellishments. His works often reference traditional Japanese motifs, reinterpreted through modern forms and Venetian influences. He served as President of the Japan Glass Artcrafts Association and received numerous honors, including the Order of the Rising Sun, Japan Art Academy Prize, and Cultural Order of Merit. In 1996, the Kyōhei Fujita Museum of Glass opened in Matsushima, Miyagi Prefecture. His legacy endures as one of the most celebrated figures in modern Japanese decorative arts.
