The overall silhouette is soft and well balanced, giving the piece a refined yet sturdy presence typical of functional sword fittings from the period. The surface is decorated with openwork carving featuring flowing, curvilinear motifs that evoke flower petals and scrolling foliage. The pierced design creates a pleasing rhythm between positive and negative space, allowing light to pass through and highlighting the craftsmanship of the iron plate. The rim is fitted with a fukurin, a protective and decorative band applied around the edge of the tsuba. This was added both to reinforce the iron plate and to enhance its visual finish. The fukurin appears to be made from copper, a common practice intended to improve durability and contrast. Around the tang hole, adjustment marks are visible, indicating that the tsuba was fitted to a specific sword tang during its working life. Light rust is present, consistent with age and use, and the fukurin is slightly loose. Overall, the piece remains in good used condition for its age. Please refer to the photos for details.
