The scabbard is a striking example of wari-urushi (crackled lacquer), a type of kawari-nuri (special lacquer finish) that resembles tortoiseshell or fine craquelure. It is decorated with plum blossom motifs, traditionally associated with endurance and renewal. The tsuba is round and made of iron, with gold inlay and evidence of fitting adjustment marks (sekigane inserts and reshaping) around the central opening. The pommel cap (kashira) is crafted in shakudō with a nanako ground – a painstaking metalwork technique made by punching tiny dots into the surface to produce a fine texture. The design depicts a plum tree and white-eye bird (mejiro) in high relief. The hilt collar (fuchi) features a hammered stone-grain texture (ishimeji) or hammered finish (tsuchimeji), adding a rustic and elegant feel. The handle and its fittings are of modern construction. The menuki appear to be made of plastic designed to resemble tortoiseshell. This sword comes with a photocopy of its Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate from Toyama Prefecture, number 15209, as the original will be returned to the government. The certificate details are as follows: Type: Sword, Length: 72.0 cm, Curvature: 0.8 cm, with one peg hole, and no inscription. It was issued on 19 May, Showa 50 (1975). There is a gap of about 1 mm between the tsuba and seppa, causing a rattling sound. There is rust on the blade, and the tip shows a chip. The tsuba has rust, and the metal fittings show patina. The lacquer scabbard has discolouration and blemishes. Please refer to the photos for full condition details. The display stand is not included. Length of the blade: 94.5 cm Total length including scabbard: 99 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid.
