Καμπάνα ναού 梵鐘 (bonshô) - Μπρούντζος - Ιαπωνία - Taishō period (1912-1926)
A heavy and impressive bronze temple bell 梵鐘 (bonshô) of traditional form, producing a deep, resonant sound when struck and bearing a beautiful green aged patina.
At the top, the suspension handle 竜頭 (ryûzu) is cast in the form of two mirrored dragon heads. The upper body of the bell is decorated with pronounced bosses 乳 (chi), arranged in four rows of four, framed by embossed cartouches. The striking area features a flower-shaped striking panel 撞座 (tsuki’za).
Dimensions:
Height 44.5 cm, Diameter 27.8 cm.
Weight: 16.4 kg.
In very good original condition. One panel shows traces of a deliberately removed inscription, a practice often carried out to preserve the privacy of the former owner or commissioner, a tradition that is highly respected in Japan. The rich patina and subtle colour variations indicate that the bell has hung outdoors for an extended period and was used in its intended functional setting. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
When shipped, we will include a certificate of authenticity.
