Description This is an original Japanese kokeshi doll dating to the Shōwa period (mid-20th century), carved from solid hardwood and lathe-turned in the traditional manner. The doll features a classic kokeshi form with a cylindrical body, rounded shoulders, and a separately turned head with a gentle tilt. The face is hand-painted with closed eyes and a small red mouth, creating a calm and understated expression typical of traditional kokeshi design. The body is decorated with hand-painted kimono motifs in black, green, and white, applied directly onto the wood. The decoration shows controlled brushwork and restrained use of color, consistent with mid-century workshop production rather than later souvenir pieces. The underside bears a red stamped mark, indicating authentic workshop manufacture.
