Set of 6 Japanese porcelain bowls – Kutani & other ware – hand‑painted, 20th century Description: Interesting group of 6 Japanese porcelain bowls, mostly Kutani ware, finely hand‑painted with traditional figures, cranes and auspicious motifs. ​ The set includes: 1-three round Kutani bowls with sage, child and crane under pine trees. 2-two square Kutani bowls with a god of fortune and gold coins. 3-one taller round bowl with flowering tree and bird decoration, probably slightly earlier in date. ​ Composition and measurements (approx.): 3 round Kutani bowls with sage / child / crane scene: Large: 18 cm diameter, 5.5 cm high Medium: 15 cm diameter, 5 cm high Small: 13 cm diameter, 4 cm high ​ 2 square Kutani bowls with god of fortune and gold coins, red 九谷 mark on the base: 13.5 × 13.5 cm, 10 cm high (each) 1 taller round bowl, richly decorated outside with flowering tree and bird, interior with partly worn gilt figure: 15 cm diameter, 9.5 cm high Marks: The three round bowls and the two square bowls carry typical red Kutani marks on the base (九谷 or 九谷製, “Kutani / made in Kutani”). ​ The taller bowl has a different red mark, probably a small workshop mark from the late Meiji–Taishō period. ​ Condition: The three round Kutani bowls and the two square bowls are in good vintage condition, with light wear, some minor glaze crazing and slight rubbing to the gilding consistent with age and use. The taller round bowl has two visible rim chips and strong wear to the interior decoration; please see photos carefully, this bowl is included as an extra piece in used condition. Period: Mostly mid‑20th century Kutani ware, with one bowl possibly late Meiji–Taishō period (early 20th century). ​ Provenance: Private collection, inherited from a diplomat who was posted in Tokyo in the 1980s and collected Japanese decorative arts.​
