The Dognapper
Original Vintage "Long-Billed" Donald Duck Production Drawing (Walt Disney, 1934)
This remarkable original production drawing features an early design of Donald Duck in The Dognapper (1934), a black-and-white theatrical short directed by David Hand. In this thrilling scene, seen near the 4:23 timestamp, Donald hides behind a row of sawmill blades as Peg-Leg Pete fires his pistol at him and Mickey in a frantic chase sequence. In this early adventure, Mickey and Donald star as police officers, pursuing dognapper Peg-Leg Pete to his sawmill hideout. Though the duo is clumsy and inexperienced, they manage to outsmart Pete multiple times-though not without leaving the sawmill in complete ruins! These extraordinary production drawings showcase Donald's early design by Disney Legend Art Babbitt, featuring his long bill and rounder body style.
Illustrated in graphite on 12-field, 2-peghole animation paper, the drawing is numbered 81. Animated by Les Clark and Ham Luske, two of "Walt's Nine Old Men," these pieces highlight classic rubber hose animation, enhanced by Squash and Stretch techniques. With age-related toning and edge wear, it remains in Good vintage condition-a rare find and a fantastic addition to any Disney animation art collection!
