Ρολόι τοίχου - Starke Space Age Πλαστικό - 1970-1980 - Junghans W736 ATO-Mat
Space Age Design | Junghans W736 | ATO-Mat Series | circa 1976
This vintage German wall clock features a strong Space Age / Industrial Modern design, characterised by a circular, softly contoured case in original ivory / off-white plastic.
The colour has aged naturally over time, resulting in a slightly non-uniform tone, typical and appreciated in authentic vintage plastics.
The white dial is framed by a contrasting darker inner ring and fitted with bold, oversized typographic numerals, highly legible and unmistakably 1970s in style.
The overall aesthetic is clean, functional and expressive, combining German industrial design with the futuristic language of the late Space Age era.
A red seconds hand adds a subtle technical accent to the composition.
The clock is branded Starke electronic and fitted with a Junghans W736 movement, belonging to the last evolution of the historic ATO-Mat series, introduced in 1976.
This calibre represents a key transitional phase in Junghans history, immediately preceding the definitive spread of quartz movements.
The movement is an electromechanical, transistorised system featuring an oscillating balance wheel (Unruh) regulated electronically.
The balance frequency was increased to 4 Hz (28,800 A/h), while the moment of inertia was almost halved and the amplitude reduced to approximately 180°, resulting in improved rate stability and timekeeping consistency.
As these movements are typically installed in a vertical position, only the lower balance bearing is fitted with a jewel (1 jewel).
The electronics are housed on a printed circuit board, which also serves as the rear plate, an advanced construction solution for the period.
The design was prepared for several circuit variants, including versions with amplitude stabilisation, manual start via a lever, or forced self-start using an RC circuit.
During operation, a laterally oscillating lever is visible, acting directly on the impulse mechanism; this movement is characteristic of the Junghans W736 calibre and is an integral part of its electromechanical functioning.
Timekeeping is regulated by the electromechanical balance system, not by a quartz crystal.
The clock has been mounted on the wall and tested for over one month, maintaining a regular and reliable rate. Contacts and components are in proper working order.

Historical note
The Junghans W736 could have continued the ATO-Mat tradition; however, at the time of its introduction, Junghans had already developed its second generation of quartz movements (W750/W751).
Despite its high technical quality, the rapid adoption of quartz technology marked the end of the electromechanical era, making the W736 one of the last representatives of this important technological phase. This is a vintage electronic timepiece.
The clock is carefully tested before shipment to confirm correct functionality at the time of dispatch.
Due to its age and the nature of vintage electronic components, future maintenance or adjustment may be required.
Minor timekeeping deviations may occur depending on factors such as the type of battery used, its state of charge, and the natural ageing of electronic components.
Any small rate variations can be easily corrected using the original regulation screw provided on the movement.
Photographs and the accompanying video form an integral part of the description and accurately represent the condition and operation of the clock at the time of listing.
By placing a bid, the buyer confirms that all images and video have been carefully reviewed and accepts the item as described.
Colours may appear slightly different depending on screen settings, device calibration, and lighting conditions.
The buyer is responsible for providing a correct and complete shipping address and for collecting the parcel upon delivery.
Professional and careful packaging is guaranteed.
