This lidded tea caddy (mizusashi or kogo) was created by Karaki Naoyuki, a contemporary Japanese ceramic artist known for blending classical tea aesthetics with refined decorative techniques. The vessel is decorated with a waterwheel (mizuguruma) motif, symbolizing the flow of time and the harmony between nature and human craftsmanship. The exterior features iron-painted and glazed scenic forms, while the lid is finished in delicate maki-e lacquer with gold detailing, creating a striking contrast against the deep black surface. Accompanied by the artist’s original signed label and wooden box, this piece is in excellent condition and is highly suitable for tea ceremony display and serious collection.
