There is no handle, collar or seppa; the blade is sold as part of this partial mounting only. The Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate from Miyagi Prefecture, no. 39413, records this piece as a wakizashi with a blade length of 54.0 cm and a curvature of 1.4 cm. It notes one peg hole in the tang and an unsigned tang. The certificate was issued on 21 January 2000 (Heisei 12). A copy of this certificate will accompany the sword, as the original must be returned to the Japanese authorities. The blade shows age-related wear throughout, with overall light rust, stains and scratches. There is a chip at the tip, together with several forging flaws and small pits visible along the surface and close to the edge; please study the close-up photos. The black scabbard is heavily damaged: it is split along its length and the two halves have been held together with black tape on both sides. The end of the scabbard is also partially missing and there are additional cracks, abrasions and losses to the lacquer. The round iron tsuba has extensive rust and old adjustment marks around the nakago-ana. The copper habaki shows age, oxidation and handling marks. The silk bag has numerous holes, tears, stains and areas of fading. Please check all photos carefully to judge the condition.
