Βάζο - Faience - βάζο φαρμακείου μαϊολικά
Decorative Italian maiolica pharmacy jar (albarello type), hand-painted with floral scrolls and a central heraldic shield depicting an animal head. The jar bears the inscription “BERBERI”, referring to Berberis, a traditional medicinal substance used in historical pharmacy.
The painted date “1584” is to be understood as a historical reference and does not indicate the production date of the object. The piece is executed in a historicist style inspired by Renaissance Italian pharmacy ceramics and was most likely produced in Italy during the mid-20th century.
The jar features a white glazed body with polychrome decoration in blue, yellow, green and black. The base is unglazed and shows a handwritten signature, typical of studio or workshop production.
