1914, WWI, Princess Mary Christmas gift tin - Κουτί - Ορείχαλκος
This is a Princess Mary Christmas gift tin from 1914.
The embossed brass box was a gift distributed to members of the British, Colonial, and Indian armed forces serving abroad during World War I.
The initiative was the result of a public appeal launched by Princess Mary to provide a morale boost to troops during the first Christmas of the war.
Over 426,000 tins were distributed to eligible servicemen and women.
The contents varied depending on the recipient, often containing items like tobacco, cigarettes, a pipe, or chocolates and sweets.
The lid features a portrait of Princess Mary, the royal monogram "M" on either side, and the names of the Allied nations at the time: Belgium, France, Imperium Britannicum (British Empire), Japan, Russia, and Servia (Serbia).
Condition;
Lovely antique condition with a beautiful patina and light surface wear in the form of small scratches and some age spots. The inner part has some stains. The hinge works perfectly. Overall, very good antique condition.
