On offer is a Contax IIa rangefinder camera from 1952 with Nikkor Japan H.C 1:2 5cm lens (Sonnar-based lens design for Nikon S rangefinder cameras). These Zeiss Contaxes are considered by many as superior to the contemporary Leica cameras. Body (number: U87): - not tested with film - rangefinder works, reasonably accurate - shutter works at all speeds including B and T. Slow speeds sound plausible. No light leaks - self timer and film counter work - cosmetically in fair condition - see pictures. No dents Lens (number: 656683): - early version with steel housing rather than the later aluminium parts - fungus on front and rear elements, no scratches or rub marks - diaphragm fine, iris blades not oily Considering its age this camera has held up well. Nevertheless it is sold as collector’s item rather than fit for daily use. Once you’ve had one of these cameras in your hand, you’ll appreciate its quiet shutter and technical finesse. It is a really nicely designed camera and a tribute to German engineering competence.
