Nik Haku - “Salt Skin” #3 XL
“Salt Skin” #3 XL is a visual artwork by Nik Haku that inhabits the space between exposure and atmosphere. A solitary female figure appears in profile, suspended against an open sky, her body intersected by a translucent vertical fabric that both reveals and conceals. Sunlight traces the contours of skin with a tactile warmth, while the fabric acts as a soft divider—part veil, part horizon. The composition balances gravity and lightness: grounded flesh set against an expansive blue, where the body becomes landscape and the air itself feels saline, slow, and still.
Artist’s statement:
This work continues my exploration of the body as a surface of memory and environment. Salt Skin refers not only to the trace of sea and sun on the body, but to skin as an archive—absorbing light, wind, and time. The vertical fabric introduces a quiet tension between presence and withdrawal, intimacy and distance. What interests me here is not nudity as exposure, but as condition: the body reduced to its essential dialogue with light, gravity, and space. In this image, the skin does not perform; it endures, holds, and remembers.

About the artist:
I’m Nik Haku, a visual artist and photographer exploring the space between the real and the altered.
My practice blends multiple techniques —primarily photography, complemented by painting— to construct images that move fluidly between mediums. My work spans portraiture and landscapes, beginning with photographic capture and evolving through painting, AI, and digital manipulation. I aim to create visual worlds where memory, identity, and imagined space overlap, dissolving the boundaries between what is seen and what is felt.
