This impressive flat vase (Henko) is a masterwork by Hajime Hasegawa, created at the renowned Kakinoki-gama kiln in Hoden, located in Takasago City, Hyogo Prefecture. The piece exemplifies the distinctive Hoden-yaki ceramic tradition of the播州 (Banshu) region.

After training for four years at a Tamba-Tachikui pottery kiln, Hasegawa established his own workshop in his hometown. His work is characterized by bold, dynamic forms and distinctive spatula work that creates powerful visual textures. Hasegawa focuses on creating pieces that showcase the natural, earthy qualities of clay while maintaining a balance between rustic beauty and functional design.
