Kwan Yin is shown seated in calm meditation upon a lotus pedestal, conveying serenity and spiritual dignity. The gentle facial expression and composed posture reflect the traditional ideals of Buddhist devotional sculpture intended for private worship or temple use. The figure is crowned with an intricately carved openwork headdress and adorned with finely detailed jewellery, demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship achieved by skilled wood sculptors of the Meiji era. Behind the figure rises a leaf-shaped halo decorated with flowing cloud scroll patterns and a lotus medallion, symbolising divine radiance and enlightenment. The surface is finished with lacquer mixed with gold powder, combined with decades of incense soot, resulting in a deep, subdued black-brown patina. This layered surface texture speaks to long years of ritual use and prayer, giving the sculpture a strong sense of age and spiritual presence. The natural wear and softened contours embody the aesthetic of wabi-sabi, where beauty is found in impermanence and quiet ageing. This is a genuine antique Buddhist sculpture with clear signs of age and devotional history. There are losses to the fingertips of both hands, damage to the tip of the halo, and repairs and losses to elements of the crown. General surface wear and incense-related soiling are present throughout. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions: approx. H 25.6 cm W 13.8 cm D 10.8 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
