Electric Light Orchestra ‎ The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) is an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1970 by songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood, with drummer Bev Bevan. Their music is characterized by a fusion of pop, classical arrangements and futuristic iconography. During the original 13 year active recording and touring stint of ELO, they have sold over 50 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music groups of all time. They garnered 19 CRIA, 21 RIAA, and 38 BPI awards. From 1972 to 1986, ELO garnered 27 top 40 songs on the UK Singles Chart and fifteen top 20 songs on the US Billboard Hot 100. The band also holds the record for most Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 hits. 2017 key members of ELO (Wood, Lynne, Bevan and Tandy) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. – The Electric Light Orchestra The Electric Light Orchestra's debut album, The Electric Light Orchestra, was released in 1971. Known as No Answer in the US due to a confusion with the record label, the album marked a fusion of classical music with rock that became a signature sound for the band. The concept behind the album was to create a sound that combined rock instruments with orchestral elements such as cellos, violins and woodwinds. Tracks like ‘10538 Overture’ showcase this blend, combining a driving rock foundation with sweeping strings and complex arrangements.
