Item Description
This is a set of two exceptional gold-decorated ceramic objects by Jinnai Sakata, a distinguished Mashiko-yaki ceramic artist. Sakata, born in Tokyo in 1943, studied under the legendary Shoji Kamoda and established his own kiln in Mashiko in 1966. His work is characterized by a unique artistic vision that transcends traditional Mashiko pottery.
These sculptural pieces showcase Sakata's signature "Shinjin-mon" (deep mystery pattern) technique combined with lustrous gold accents. The objects possess an otherworldly, almost alien-like quality, reflecting the artist's fascination with cosmic and universal themes. Each piece features intricate surface textures achieved through Sakata's mastery of Mashiko clay and his innovative approach to ceramic sculpture.
Sakata has held numerous solo exhibitions in New York and throughout Japan since 1987, establishing himself as a multidisciplinary artist working not only with ceramics but also with glass, paper, and metal. His works are celebrated for their bold artistic expression and contemporary interpretation of traditional Mashiko techniques.
These pieces represent the creative spirit of a true ceramic innovator who has expanded the boundaries of Mashiko pottery into the realm of fine art sculpture.
