Large Polychrome Foo Dog (Guardian Lion) An impressive and richly coloured large Chinese Foo Dog (guardian lion) The figure is modelled with great vitality, seated in a traditional guarding pose, resting one paw on a decorative element, symbolising protection and power. The sculpture is finished in a striking polychrome glaze, dominated by a vibrant yellow body, with finely modelled scrollwork in green, blue and aubergine tones to the mane and decorative details. The expressive facial features, alert posture and dynamic modelling give the piece a strong presence. The Foo Dog is mounted on an integral square base, decorated with stylised geometric and scroll motifs, typical of Republic period decorative ceramics. Condition The piece is in excellent condition, with no damage, no cracks and no restorations.
