Οθόνη αναδιπλούμενη (byôbu) - Χρυσό φύλλο, γυαλισμένο ξύλο, μετάξι. - Ιαπωνία - Taishō period (1912-1926)
A striking tall six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) featuring a lively sumi-e 墨絵 (black ink) painting centred on an impressive, curving pine tree 松 (matsu).
Around the trunk swirls a large flock of yellow black-naped orioles 高麗鶯 (kôraiuguisu), fluttering and perching among the branches. At the base of the hill stand young bamboo 竹 (take) shoots and scattered dandelions 蒲公英 (tanpopo), some already turned to soft white seed puffs. A small group of Japanese tit 四十雀 (shijûkara) is shown in mid-flight, nearing the scene.
Executed in pigments and ink on a gold-leaf ground. Bordered by two silk brocade trims: a slim black inner band and a broad brown outer band. The screen is set within a red lacquered wooden frame fitted with protective metal hardware.
Dimensions: Height 171.8 cm; Total width 379 cm (2 × 64.5 cm, 4 × 62.5 cm)
Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912-1926)
In a very good condition with signs of age on both sides. The third panel shows some irregularities in the gold leaf. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
This folding screen is well-suited for mounting flat on a wall and displaying as a single work of art.
When shipped, we will include a certificate of authenticity.
