Inside are a suiteki, used to hold water for the preparation of ink, and a porcelain suzuri (inkstone), decorated in blue-and-white. Complete with tomobako. Japanese lacquerware (漆器, shikki) represents one of Japan’s most celebrated artistic traditions.
