Pre-Columbian Chimu culture - North Coast Peru This sculptural ceramic vessel features a globular body set on a pedestal base, surmounted by a central vertical spout with a flared rim. From the shoulder emerges a bird head with a clearly defined beak and rounded eye rendered in low relief. A narrow incised and lightly pigmented geometric band encircles the shoulder. The vessel exhibits a dark gray to black finish, consistent with North Coast firing and finishing techniques, with surface wear and abrasion commensurate with age.
