Seiko - Lord Matic Special "Wavy Gradient Blue" - χωρίς τιμή ασφαλείας - 5206-6100 - Άνδρες - 1973
Presented for auction by Second Vintage
This is a remarkable example of Seiko's design prowess during the 1970s, featuring the highly desirable "Special" classification within the Lord Matic line. This specific reference is celebrated by collectors for its rare and mesmerizing blue textile-textured dial, which interacts beautifully with the faceted crystal to create a dynamic visual experience. Powered by the high-grade 5206 movement, which was one of the last high-end mechanical calibers developed by Seiko Daini before the quartz era, this timepiece represents a significant moment in horological history. It combines a sophisticated dress aesthetic with the robust engineering that defined Seiko's golden era.

Dial and Hands
The highlight of this timepiece is undoubtedly the deep blue dial, which features an intricate woven or textile-like texture that is rarely seen and highly sought after. The dial is adorned with polished, applied faceted hour markers and the distinct gold "LM" logo applied above the "Special" script at the six o'clock position. The hands are sharp and polished, retaining their original aesthetic. A framed day and date window is positioned at three o'clock. The dial itself remains in excellent preservation, showcasing the depth of the texture without visible staining or damage.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features the sharp, geometric lines characteristic of the era, often associated with Seiko's "Grammar of Design" philosophy. The case preserves its original definition with strong lugs and distinct bevels. As a vintage piece, there are visible surface scratches and signs of wear throughout the case and bezel consistent with age and use. The watch is fitted with a faceted crystal, a signature of the 1970s Lord Matic and Vanac lines, which adds a jewel-like quality to the watch face. The crystal shows signs of wear and scratches which are visible in the photographs.
Movement
Inside beats the highly regarded automatic Caliber 5206, a 23-jewel movement running at 28,800 vibrations per hour. This "Special" grade movement was a step up from the standard 56-series found in regular Lord Matics, offering higher precision and instant day-date change capabilities. Timegrapher testing indicates the watch is running between +22 and +25 seconds per day, which indicates a healthy movement offering reliable vintage performance.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a vintage stainless steel link bracelet that complements the case design perfectly. The clasp is stamped "Bear," indicating a period-correct third-party bracelet rather than the original factory bracelet. It is currently sized to fit a wrist of approximately 18 cm.
Condition
This timepiece is in good vintage condition. While the case and faceted crystal show honest signs of wear and handling marks typical of a watch from 1973, the structural integrity remains strong. The dial is exceptionally well-preserved, contrasting beautifully with the vintage character of the exterior.
Dimensions
The case measures 34 mm in diameter excluding the crown, offering a classic and understated profile suitable for various wrist sizes.
Remarks
The Lord Matic Special 5206-6100 is becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly with this specific blue textured dial configuration. It stands as a testament to the creativity of the Daini Seikosha factory and offers a sophisticated wearing experience that rivals many higher-priced Swiss contemporaries of the same period.
History
The Lord Matic (LM) line was introduced in 1968 and sat just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko in the brand's hierarchy. The "Special" designation, introduced later, signified the use of the 52-stream high-beat movements, which were engineered to offer superior accuracy and durability. The 52 caliber series is historically significant as it was later resurrected in the 1990s as the 4S movement, powering some of Seiko's prestigious modern mechanical watches.
