Gold coins from the reign of Emperor Ferdinand III. Ducat of 1641, bearing the title of Ferdinand III.
Mint master: Hans Siegmund Federer. Crossed city keys within an ornate Baroque cartouche, above a winged angel’s head // Crowned double-headed eagle, on its breast a crowned, two-part coat of arms (Austria/Lorraine). Beckenb. 409; Fb. 2466.
coin of great rarity. Choice (Extremely Fine) specimen.
During the reign of Emperor Ferdinand III, Regensburg, a Free Imperial City of the Holy Roman Empire, struck a very limited number of gold coins, mainly ducats, in the emperor’s name. These issues were not intended for daily circulation but for prestige, diplomatic payments, and representation of imperial authority.
The gold ducats of Regensburg from this period are considered very rare. Mintages were low, and surviving examples are scarce, especially in high-grade condition. Their combination of historical importance, restricted production, and excellent craftsmanship makes them highly desirable among advanced collectors of Holy Roman Empire gold.
Today, gold coins of Regensburg under Ferdinand III are regarded as elite numismatic pieces, valued as much for their rarity as for their strong historical symbolism.
