Large lacquered tsuri’daiko 釣り太鼓 (hanging court or shrine drum). The circular frame adorned with a gilded metal flame with an open work and engraved swirling cloud design with in the centre three raised ‘precious jewels’ 宝珠 (hôju) The suspended large drum (taiko) with gilded drum skins fastened by a single rows of dome-shaped rivets on a brown lacquered keyaki wooden frame. When struck, the drum creates a nice strong and deep sound. The circular frame, and post lacquered black with red rims, and adorned by stylized flame ornaments. The post transcends into four elegant ‘warabite’-shaped feet. The frame and feet are detachable, and the drum as well is detachable from the frame. Including a pair of black lacquer wooden bachi 撥 (striker), which can be hung from metal rings at the side. The drum with an inscribed metal label: ‘Taiko no Sankei’ 太鼓の山慶, ‘Tsushima City, Meitencho, Nagoya’ 津島市明天町 . Period: Japan – Mid-Shôwa period (Mid-20th century). Approx. size complete frame: Height 125 cm, Width 64 cm, Depth 52.5 cm. Size drum: Diameter 39.5 cm, Depth 15.5 cm. This instrument is in a very good restored condition with traces of wear conform age and use. Like some loss of gilding of the drum skins. New pins for the jewel ornaments.
