Orange trilobite Hamatolenus (Hamatolenus) vincenti (G. Geyer & E. Landing, 2004) association from the Jbel Wawrmast Formation of Morocco. | PAIS 9577
Please see the high-resolution photos for full details: specimen in matrix context, isolated view, and magnified close-ups. Additional images available upon request.
OUR GRADING FOR THIS SPECIMEN: 3/5 *** — Overall detail and striking diagenetic colour; inter-specific association in vertical deposition - two splits in the same extremely fossiliferous "concretion".
(Graded using our transparent 5-point system — see seller info for details.)
This specimen reflects the typical taphonomic challenges of the Wawrmast Formation: high hardness, metamorphic overprint, and frequent post-mortem distortion and deposition. Despite this, its colour, and anatomical tridimensionality make it a meaningful addition for collectors focused on Moroccan Redlichiida or diagenetic variation.
Restoration details: All natural specimen. Glued after being broken at the quarry work, were it suffered a lot.
Dimensions
Trilobite size (incomplete Hamatolenus for reference): 3.2 x 1.9 cm
Matrix size: 9.5 x 4.3 cm
Weight: 113 g
Scientific Details
Species 1: Hamatolenus (Hamatolenus) vincenti (G. Geyer & E. Landing, 2004) - one incomplete exoskeleton with pygidium not visible (inside matrix) + one cranidium
Family: Ellipsocephalidae
Order: "Ptychopariida"
Class: Trilobita
Species 2: Ellipsocephalidae indet. ("Kingaspidoides or Cambrosaurura - pygidium needed, probably Cambrosaurura usitata" - G. Geyer, pers. com.)
Family: Ellipsocephalidae
Order: "Ptychopariida"
Class: Trilobita
Lithostratigraphy: Jebel Wawrmast Formation
Age: Lower Middle Cambrian
Locality: Tougach, Morocco
Special notes on coloration :
The specimen exhibit striking orange/golden hues, likely resulting from mineralization processes in the exoskeletons – possibly involving iron oxides incorporated during diagenesis. These tones enhance the contrast with the warm-toned limestone matrix and highlight the 3D relief of the axial lobe, cephalic structures, and pleurae, adding both aesthetic elegance and taphonomic interest.
Don’t miss this opportunity to own a true milestone in early arthropod evolution.
