Ancient Egypt – Carnelian Heart Amulet – 14 mm – Late Period (664–332 BC)
Small heart amulet (ib) carved from natural yellow-orange carnelian and finely polished. In ancient Egyptian belief, the heart was regarded as the seat of consciousness and moral identity, playing a central role in the ritual of the Weighing of the Heart in the afterlife.
Carnelian, a stone associated with the sun and protective qualities, was widely used in the production of amulets and devotional objects.
Proposed date: Late Period, circa 664–332 BC
Material: Natural carnelian
Dimensions: 14 × 11 × 8 mm
Condition: Good overall condition; natural inclusions and internal lines typical of the material are visible, along with minor surface wear consistent with age.
Provenance
From a private English collection formed in the second half of the 20th century; subsequently transferred to a private collection in the United States.
Small-sized object suitable for collectors of Egyptian antiquities and ancient carved gemstones.
