Val Saint Lambert - Σετ ποτού (8) - Υπηρεσία PONIATOWSKY - 100 ml - Κρύσταλλο - Δεκαετίες 1880–1900

Val Saint Lambert – “Poniatowski” Glasses Belgium, late 19th century – early 20th century Set of 8 glasses, 100 ml each This elegant set of eight crystal glasses belongs to the celebrated Poniatowski service by Val Saint Lambert, one of the most iconic and enduring glassware designs produced by the renowned Belgian manufactory. Introduced in the second half of the 19th century, the Poniatowski model remained in production well into the early 20th century and is regarded today as a classic of European cut crystal. The model is documented in the Val Saint Lambert Cristallerie catalogue of 1904–1905, where the full service is illustrated, confirming its historical importance and long-standing popularity. Examples from the Poniatowski service are also preserved in the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels, underscoring its museum-recognized status and cultural significance (see final reference photo). Each glass is made of fine crystal, entirely hand-blown and hand-cut, featuring the characteristic vertical cut panels that elegantly taper toward the bowl and continue into a faceted stem with a polygonal foot. The proportions are balanced and refined, making these glasses suitable both for display and for use at the table. Condition: Overall very good antique condition. A few glasses show tiny chips to the underside of the foot (shown in the photos) , consistent with careful use over more than a century and not affecting stability or visual appeal. Capacity: 100 ml per glass Quantity: Set of 8 glasses A highly collectible and historically documented ensemble, ideal for collectors of Val Saint Lambert crystal, museum-referenced tableware, or refined 19th-century European glass. Antique crystal glasses from the early 20th century are handmade, so small differences in weight, stem thickness or wall thickness and small imperfections are normal for that period. Val Saint Lambert, nestled in Seraing near Liège, Belgium, is a beacon of crystal craftsmanship with a legacy spanning nearly two centuries. Established in 1826 by chemist François Kemlin and engineer Auguste Lelièvre, the company transformed the remnants of the Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey into a thriving glassworks. The 19th century marked a period of significant growth for Val Saint Lambert. By the early 1900s, the company employed over 5,000 workers, producing 120,000 pieces of glass daily. Their creations, renowned for exceptional quality and intricate designs, found admirers worldwide, including in Tsarist Russia and North America. A testament to their artistry is the “Vase of the Nine Provinces,” a monumental piece over 2 meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms, crafted for the 1894 World Exhibition in Antwerp. The 20th century brought challenges, including the impacts of two World Wars and economic downturns. Despite these obstacles, Val Saint Lambert’s resilience ensured the preservation of its artisanal heritage. Today, the company seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, producing exquisite crystal pieces that cater to modern aesthetics. Val Saint Lambert stands as a symbol of Belgian craftsmanship, where each piece reflects a harmonious blend of history, artistry, and innovation. Will be well packaged, protected and insured
