Biography Kawai Takekazu (1908-1989) Born in Yasugi Town, Nogi District, Shimane Prefecture, he was a ceramic artist of the Showa period. In 1927 he studied in Kyoto under his uncle Kawai Kanjiro and trained for about forty years, inheriting techniques such as gosu, cinnabar glaze, amber glaze, and iron glaze. In 1935 he assisted Bernard Leach at the Kawai kiln and contributed to the development of mingei ceramics. He held exhibitions in Australia and New Zealand in 1964, celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his career in 1978, and died in 1989.

Kawai Takekazu (1908-1989)

Born in Yasugi Town, Nogi District, Shimane Prefecture, he was a ceramic artist of the Showa period. In 1927 he studied in Kyoto under his uncle Kawai Kanjiro and trained for about forty years, inheriting techniques such as gosu, cinnabar glaze, amber glaze, and iron glaze.
