Large and impressive decorative bas-relief plaque depicting a Bacchanalian procession inspired by the work of Adriano Cecioni (Florence, 19th century).
The relief shows Bacchus accompanied by satyrs, maenads and putti in a dynamic classical composition, executed in composition marble / marble composite typical of late 19th – early 20th century European classical revival production.
The plaque bears the inscription:
“Adriano Cecioni – Firenze 1772.”
This inscription is referential to the original model and should not be interpreted as the production date of this piece.
On the reverse is a roundel marked “Exposition Universelle 1889”, referencing the Paris World Exhibition. This mark is consistent with decorative works produced in the period following the late 19th century international exhibitions.
Period: Late 19th – early 20th century
Origin: Continental Europe, Italian tradition
Material: Composition marble (marble composite)
Dimensions: approx. 89 cm (width) x 25 cm (height)
Condition: Very good overall condition. Light surface wear and patina consistent with age. No visible structural damage. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
