Matono Motomu(1945–) This commanding Bizen-ware yakishime tall-neck vase (nagatosubo) was hand-crafted by Matono Motomu, a celebrated mid-career Bizen potter who trained under Fujiwara Ken, an Intangible Cultural Asset of Okayama Prefecture. Executed in the yakishime (unglazed, high-fired) tradition that has defined Bizen ceramics for over a thousand years, this elongated vessel displays the raw, natural beauty that is the hallmark of authentic Bizen ware. The surface is adorned with carved textural relief (monbori), creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow across the deep, earthy tones born from the kiln's natural fire. The bold, elongated neck rises with dignified presence above a rounded body, lending the piece a sculptural quality equally at home in contemporary interiors and traditional Japanese settings. Acquired directly at a solo exhibition, this piece comes with its original wooden storage box (tomobako) and the artist's booklet (shiori), confirming its full provenance. Size Height: 25.5 cm Width (mouth diameter): 18 cm Depth (body diameter): 18 cm Weight 2,817 g / 2.817 kg Condition This piece is in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or significant scratches; comes with the original artist's wooden box (tomobako) and booklet (shiori). Artist Profile Matono Motomu (的野求) was born in 1945 in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, the heartland of Bizen-ware ceramics. He trained under Fujiwara Ken, a designated Intangible Cultural Asset of Okayama Prefecture, before establishing his own kiln, the Yūdachiju-gama (夕立受窯), in 1973. Recognised as a mid-level yet highly popular Bizen artist, Matono earned multiple awards at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition (Nihon Dentō Kōgei-ten) and held solo exhibitions across Japan. His work is distinguished by its vigorous, unglazed surface textures and confident, sculptural forms rooted in the ancient yakishime tradition. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally.
