Boys’ Day, celebrated annually on the 5th of May as part of Children’s Day in Japan, is dedicated to wishing for the healthy growth, strength, and future success of boys. Decorative items associated with samurai culture, such as armour, helmets, and bows, are displayed during this time as symbols of protection, resilience, and the warding off of evil spirits. The black lacquer-style base is decorated with pine trees and cranes executed in maki-e, a traditional Japanese decorative technique where gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto wet lacquer to produce intricate designs. The surface is further enhanced with shimmering mother-of-pearl inlays. Pine and cranes symbolise longevity and good fortune. The bow features a nashiji finish. Nashiji employs a similar method to maki-e, using gold or silver flecks to achieve a pear skin-like texture, offering a unique shimmer and depth to the surface. There is flaking and scuffing to the gold decoration on both the base and the bow. The arrow feathers show significant wear and deterioration. One of the support pillars is slightly lifted from the base and exhibits looseness. There is also slackness in the bow’s shape and string tension due to age. Fair to good vintage condition overall. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions: approx. H 77.4 cm W 22.7 cm D 16.1 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
