A lovely kuruma’dansu 車箪笥 (small wheeled storage chest). Fully restored, cleaned, and waxed. Crafted from solid keyaki 欅 (zelkova) with sugi 杉 (cedar) panels, and finished in a warm brown lacquer with an attractive aged patina. The cabinet is configured with one full-width drawer and a pair of sliding doors fitted with horizontal bars. When fully opened to the right, a concealed interior drawer is revealed. The frame has projecting corner elements and is fitted with antique iron hardware, including sturdy warabite-shaped bail handles and cord rings. A distinctive feature of a kuruma’dansu is its placement on wheels, allowing the chest to be quickly moved in case of fire, particularly from storehouses.
