Μεσαιωνική Ασημί Δαχτυλίδι - με καρνέλιαν καβοκόν (χωρίς τιμή ασφαλείας)

Medieval Eastern Mediterranean Silver Ring with Carnelian Possible Crusader Period, circa 12th–13th century AD Description An attractive medieval silver ring set with a rectangular carnelian cabochon, likely produced in the Eastern Mediterranean during the Crusader period (12th–15th century AD). The ring features a hand-worked silver bezel containing a warm reddish carnelian stone with a softly polished surface. The shoulders display a distinctive granulated and nodular decoration, creating a textured, organic appearance characteristic of certain medieval metalworking traditions of the Levant and Byzantine cultural sphere. The stone is set within a raised bezel with irregular hand-formed edges, consistent with traditional medieval mounting techniques. The ring retains natural surface patina, oxidation, and earthen deposits, indicating long-term age and burial exposure and adding to its historical authenticity and visual appeal. Carnelian was widely used throughout the medieval Near East and Mediterranean world due to its durability, vivid color, and symbolic associations with protection and status. Material Silver ring Carnelian stone (reddish chalcedony) Measurements Weight: 4.18 g Inner diameter: 19.4 – 22.2 mm (slightly irregular band) Ring size: EU: approx. 61–70 (due to oval distortion) US: approx. 9.5–13 Condition Good medieval condition. The ring shows expected wear, surface irregularities, and oxidation consistent with age. The carnelian stone displays minor surface wear and small edge abrasions but remains firmly set within the bezel. Natural patina and earthen deposits remain present. No modern repairs observed. Historical Context Silver rings with carnelian settings were widely worn across the Byzantine and Eastern Mediterranean regions, including territories influenced by the Crusader states (1099–1291 AD). Carnelian was valued for both decorative and symbolic purposes and frequently appeared in rings used for personal adornment or as signet devices. The granulated decorative shoulders and robust construction reflect practical jewelry forms typical of the medieval Levant. Provenance From an old European private collection, assembled in the late 1980s. A provenance statement and declaration of legal origin can be provided in PDF format upon request. Please note: The photographs are highly magnified to show detail. In hand, the ring presents an especially attractive and harmonious appearance, with the warm glow of the carnelian contrasting beautifully against the aged silver.
