Item Description
山田登陽志 Yamada Toyoshi
This magnificent flower vase is a work by Toyoshi Yamada, a certified Traditional Craftsman (Dento Kogei-shi) of Kutani ware and member of the Nihon Kogeikai. Crafted at his Koyo Kiln (光陽窯), this generously proportioned vessel showcases his mastery of the yuurikin'sai (釉裏金彩) technique — a rare and exquisite method in which gold leaf is applied to the bisque surface and then sealed beneath a layer of transparent glaze before firing. Developed in the 1950s by Kanazawa ceramicist Takeda Aritune, this technique permanently encases the gold within the glaze, preventing tarnishing and preserving a refined, luminous glow that differs markedly from conventional overglaze gilding.
The vase presents a full, rounded silhouette that speaks to classical Japanese flower vessel traditions. The surface radiates with the characteristic soft, warm brilliance of underglaze gold, framed within the elegant sensibility of Kutani porcelain. This piece is presented in its original tomobako (artist's wooden storage box), which bears the artist's signature and seal — a mark of authenticity and collectability.
A rare opportunity to acquire a certified work by one of Kutani ware's distinguished contemporary masters, ideal for display or as a prestigious gift.
