THE ACAPULCO COLLECTION: In the late 1960s, the famous Luxembourgish tableware manufacturer Villeroy & Boch began collaborating with designer Christine Reuter, who presented an exceptionally cheerful dishware pattern with brilliantly coloured decoration inspired by Mexican folk art. The collection, appropriately called ACAPULCO, has a strong Flower Power influence, making it unique and widely collected. Reuter designed the line after visiting Acapulco, Mexico, and created the design not only as an ode to the city, but also to the country's culture — with Aztec motifs and a bright, vibrant colour palette. The Acapulco line of dishware from the 60s/70s is highly sought after worldwide.
DESIGNER: Christine Reuter was one of the distinguished designers of 20th century Germany. She is mostly known for her design work at the internationally renowned Villeroy & Boch company, though she also worked as a designer for Jasba Keramik (Ransbach-Baumbach, Germany). Reuter joined Villeroy & Boch as chief designer in the late 1960s and created some iconic patterns, including the Acapulco, Cadiz, Viking and Scarlett designs, all known for their vivid, lively colours.. Christine’s artistry is represented at numerous museums and galleries in Europe and North America.
