Αντίγραφο ενός Αρχαίου Έλληνα. Terracotta Θεός Παν - 35 cm
Pan is the deity of the wild and uncontaminated world, of outdoor life and unbridled freedom, of summer heat and fertility: it is no coincidence that he is often depicted in a state of erotic arousal. All the characteristics attributed to him in ancient myth reflect the customs of pastoral and agricultural life.
Pan is credited with the invention of the flute itself (in Greek sỳrinx), made from the reed into which the nymph Syrinx was transformed after rejecting the god's amorous advances. The entire pastoral world is linked to Pan: the god is often depicted alongside satyrs, human creatures with ears, tails, horns, and goat-like feet who spend their time in the woods and countryside singing, playing music, dancing, and playing games. Pan is also the companion of the nymphs, the divine inhabitants of springs and woods devoted to choruses and love.
