Antique large sugar bowl by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), Germany, late 1800s. Executed in a rich Neo-Renaissance design, made in a combination of brass and Britannia. Originally silver-plated, now reveals the beautiful contrast between the golden brass and the white metal. The piece is stamped WMF.B at the base. Highly decorative throughout. The lid is decorated with masks, floral and leaf motifs, and a sculptural finial. The body features dragons, flowers, and butterflies, continuing into the design of the foot. The two handles are formed as female figures with curved bodies. Inside is clean and well-preserved. A very impressive and unique antique piece. Condition: Beautiful rich patina throughout. The finial is slightly crooked. The lid rim is slightly out of round, so it closes and stays in place but requires a bit of adjustment to sit perfectly. Fantastic piece.
