A beautiful large black lacquer dome-shaped jikirô 食籠 (ceremonial food container) with a fitted lid and raised on a pedestal foot. The exterior is all-over decorated with golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) depicting scrolling vines (karakusa) sprouting towards bean gourds blossoms. The entire interior is executed with a nice even layer of crimson red lacquer finished with a golden fundame rim. Dimensions: Height 29.5 cm, Diameter 36.1 cm Period: Japan - Taishô period (1912-1926) The container is in a very good condition with minimal traces of age and wear. A minor restoration on the inside of the lid. Please look at the photos for a condition reference. Lacquer food containers like this one were presented by wealthy families at weddings or other important occasions. They would have contained delicacies appropriate to the season. Comes with an original tomobako 供箱 (storage box) with washi paper glued label. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
