Jizô Bosatsu, affectionately known as Ojizô-sama, is one of the most beloved figures in Japanese Buddhism. Revered as the protector of children, travellers, and those in need, he is especially associated with guiding the souls of the deceased. He is often depicted carrying a staff to open the gates of hell and a jewel to illuminate darkness. His image is commonly found along roadsides, in graveyards, and at temple precincts, serving as a source of comfort and protection.
