Item Description 須賀月芳 Suga Tsukiyoshi × Takaoka Douki A Masterpiece of Lost-Wax Cast Bronze Incense Burner — Takaoka Douki, Japan This exquisite incense burner (koro) is a work by 須賀月芳 Suga Tsukiyoshi, a distinguished master of rōgata (lost-wax) bronze casting from Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture — Japan's foremost center of traditional bronze craftsmanship, designated as a National Traditional Craft in 1975. The piece stands on three rounded feet and features a beautifully openwork (sukashi) pierced lid crowned with a finely cast kirin (mythical auspicious beast) finial — a symbol of prosperity and good fortune in East Asian culture. The cylindrical body is encircled by horizontal ribbed lines (tatesen), giving it an elegant architectural quality. The lid's pierced band displays an intricate interlocking scroll pattern, reflecting the extraordinary precision that the rōgata lost-wax technique demands. The surface exhibits a rich dark bronze patina, the result of careful chemical coloring (chakushoku) — a hallmark of Takaoka Douki craftsmanship. A maker's seal (落款) is cast into the base of the piece, confirming its authenticity. The incense burner is accompanied by its original tomobako (共箱 — maker's signed wooden storage box), with the artist's calligraphic signature and seal on the lid, along with a folded shiori (解説書 — explanatory leaflet) describing the rōgata casting tradition and the lineage of the Suga family workshop. A superb collector's piece representing the living tradition of Japanese bronze art. My Message Thank you so much for viewing my item. I run a recycle shop in Japan.
